Reactivity tests are essential when using alternative materials as a cement substitute

Reducing the clinker content in cement and also the cement content in concrete are key levers for improving the construction industry's carbon footprint. However, due to the decline in conventional cement substitutes and concrete additives such as fly ash or granulated blast furnace slag, alternative sources will have to be found in the future. In this context, various primary and, above all, secondary raw material sources are being evaluated.
 

We assess alternative cement substitutes

A decisive parameter regarding the suitability of a material as an ingredient in cement is its reactivity. In addition to determining the mineralogical and chemical composition as well as the physical properties of potential raw materials, our researchers test reactivity using both established rapid tests and standardized test mortars.
